Dyslexia is MY SUPERPOWER
Kelley M LikesThis past weekend, I spent several hours at a festival, standing behind a table filled with my books. A girl about 9 years old, came up to me and asked to play the Plinko game to win a prize. I asked her if she liked to read and she told me she was dyslexic.
"So am I," I replied. "And I wrote all these books!"
The next few minutes we talked about the challenges of dyslexia. I told her that dyslexics make great editors because we read word by word and not skimming over words. She left by saying, "Maybe one day I can write a book."
I also talked to a bunch of families about their kids who struggle. One mom marched right up to me and said, "My son has dyslexia."
I replied, "All my books have dyslexic friendly fonts, spacing, and sizing. My books are made for kids to read."
If you would have told that little me in 1st grade, the one who couldn't read the letters on the footprints to go out to recess, that she would be writing books to encourage others who struggle to read, well I wouldn't have believed you. Yet, here I am.
