What do you mean 50/50 Text/Illustrations?
Kelley M LikesI honestly believe that 50% of the book should be illustrations and 50% text. This means that you are hardly ever going to find a book of mine where I describe something in text and then show it on the page.
The ONLY exception to this are my Mat books. These books are to help new readers learn new words, so the words and text match exactly.
My books require observation. In this spread from The Pumpkin Who Stayed for Christmas, the seeds of the badger's beloved pumpkin fall onto the grass.
On the next page, the seeds have sprouted.
Until they are smiling pumpkins.
And if the reader is surprised as to how the smiling pumpkins got there, they can turn back a few pages and see the progression from seeds, to sprouts, to vines, to pumpkins.
This is how I write my stories: mainly speech bubbles, lots of amazing illustrations, and observational skills.
In my opinion, if you can see it on the page, it shouldn't be written in the text.
