I was thinking about my time teaching. One year, I had a student who struggled to stay in their seat. I was notorious for not being able to successfully sharpen a pencil. They would always come out wonky and break again. Well, one day, my pencil broke and this student jumped up and offered to sharpen it for me. And thus began a year long endeavor to break pencil tips every time this kid needed to get out of their seat. I vividly remember him saying, "Not again, Mrs. Likes!"
I would like to add...I don't write with pencils; I just kept a supply for this kid. The sound of a pencil tip breaking and the pencil sharpener gnawing away resonated in my brain as I wrote this story.
I, too, have a drawer of everything. As I dig through my drawer of everything, I know I will find exactly what I need!
